A challenging riverside location adjacent to a scheduled Ancient Monument was the site for this residential development.
In 2002 GHK designed the Harbour Road development in Wadebridge, Cornwall for a property developer. We obtained planning permission for 8 flats, a fitness centre and 2 retail units on a difficult riverside site in a conservation area, adjacent to the bridge which is a scheduled Ancient Monument.
We provided the client with general arrangement drawings and obtained Building Regulation and Environment Agency approvals for the client to take the scheme forward.
Because of the nature of the filled land, ground beams supported on piles carry the new building. A system of underground holding tanks was necessary for the accumulation of rainwater and tidal flap outlets drain these when the river is sufficiently low.
GHK worked with the local council to provide a landmark gateway to the Camel Trail adjacent to the bridge so that the route continues across the site to terminate nearer the town centre.
