Set in a stunning two acre riverside garden overlooking the Thames, this house was originally built as a gardener's cottage.
Whilst presenting a charming 'Queen Anne' façade to the garden elevation, the remainder of the house was undistinguished with 1950's flat roofed extensions, all in a poor state of repair.
Our design solution was to design a new house retaining and incorporating the 5 bay 'Queen Anne' façade. Facing bricks from the demolitions were carefully salvaged and used in the new elevations. The design included a more steeply pitched roof to provide a better balanced architectural composition as well as permitting additional accommodation within the roof space.
We chose Richard Young of GHK to carry out a complete renovation of a quite run down property. It is in a conservation area in Richmond and because of this we knew that it would require an architect with successful experiences of obtaining planning permissions in the borough. Read more He advised that it would be better to rebuild, and he was correct. A section of the face of the house was maintained, the remainder knocked down and a new house built behind it but within the original footprint. Much to our surprise, planning permission was obtained without delay. The house was completed on time and to budget. From a client perspective Richard and his team are a joy to deal with, very professional, with great attention to detail, and very patient.
